VISG meetings are held every second month on the third Sunday at 2pm. Guests are welcome, usually hosted at a member’s home. The location changes so please confirm attendance in advance and get specific information about location.

Annual General Meeting

  1. President’s Welcome:

    Bob Williams welcomed everyone to the meeting of the 2009/2010 AGM of the Vancouver Island Sculpture Guild. Bob invited us to load our plates at the “Italian” buffet, so we could both eat and meet. Thanks to Jan for arranging the commodious setting for our AGM.

    Introductions were made around the table.

  2. Executive Reports

    In his President’s Report, Bob thanked the Executive members for their efforts over the past year, noting the business/social meetings and visits to studios and shows. David Hunwick was congratulated for his role as a teacher at Victoria College of Art, his work on the Blue Whale Project and his demanding schedule of shows.

    Our treasurer, Jan Johnson, reported a detailed account of our income and expenses with a bank balance of $1562.46 at the end of 2009.

    Audrey related our VISG vision statement to our sculpture shows and our meetings in homes and studios as well as visits to well-known artists, such as Maarten Schaddelee and Frances Semple.

  4. New Business:

    • Calendar – All members are invited to send calendar items, such as shows, public art meetings and studio tours, to Audrey. A calendar of events for sculptors will be emailed to all members and posted on our website.
    • Website Updates – contact Bob with your website updates.
    • Rack Card – Amanda designed a rack card with basic important VISG information and our contact information. A committee of Bart, Rick, Amanda and Dale was struck to coordinate the production of the first set of cards with a ceiling price of $100.
    • VISG Banner – the same committee will investigate a new banner and report back on the size, materials and cost.
    • Posterloops – Zulis was acknowledged for her good work of publicity of the Saanich Municipal Hall sculpture show on April 7 to May 4, 2010. The posterloops suggestion was tabled for further information and consideration.
    • Outreach – A motion was made to request that Christa Rossner initiate recognition of former VISG members (Roy Hamill, Elsa Mayhew and others) on our website.
    • Other Sculptors on our Website – A motion was passed that those sculptors who have made contribution to VISG in the form of tours, or workshops are given honorary memberships and links on our website for one year. They have the option to allow their membership to be suspended or repeat membership for the membership fee of $25.
    • Bart volunteered to liaise with University of Victoria, Camosun College, the VCA and local High Schools to promote sculpture appreciation and possibly draw in members and to organize student exhibitions with us.
    • 2019 Program – The members present agreed to continue to meet every other month as needed on the third Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm. Meetings would continue to focus on practical demonstrations in studios. Bob and Audrey will draw up a program to include speakers, field trips and demonstrations.
